Enzymes
- The Fountain of Life |
 |
Enzymes, the biological catalysts, have aptly been called
"Fountain of Life". Enzymes, ubiquitously found in nature,
are responsible for the myriad reactions taking place in our bodies.
Not only do they orchestrate the break down of complex molecules
into simple molecules, they also regulate and control each and every
process that keeps the body functioning harmoniously. Consequently,
their therapeutic applications are varied and far-reaching.
Enzymes
have a central importance in ensuring the equilibrium-between activation
and inhibition-of the reactions of the immune system, which leads
to tissue damage in almost every disease. Mechanism of action of
enzymes in these conditions is by enzymatic interruption of the
complement cascade, breakdown of pathogenic immune complexes and
activation of macrophages.
